Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork

Sessions are individualized to meet your needs:

When you first meet me, you will have the opportunity to discuss your goals and expectations. For example, if you are experiencing pain in a specific area, you may request deep tissue therapy to release the muscle area. If you are an athlete in training, stretching massage techniques such as Tui Na and/or Trager may be desirable to restore muscle tone. You may be stressed out after a long day and a relaxing Swedish massage or Jin Shin Jytsu, the least invasive forms of Western and East Asian massage respectively, is what you may need to restore yourself. All this can be discussed before your session begins. As the session progresses, you can always let me know your needs.

What type of massage can I receive?

Because I am trained quite extensively in both Western and East Asian styles of bodywork, you will have many choices to choose from. The work is done on a professional massage table. Basically, you have the choice of keeping your clothes on (dry massage) or disrobing under a sheet/blanket (wet massage). The dry massage employs mainly East Asian forms of massage such as Shiatsu and/or Tui Na where acupressure points are palpated. Sometimes these East Asian forms of bodywork such as Ashiatsu (barefoot shiatsu) or Thai Massage, are more effectively done on the futon. The wet massage uses oil and/or lotion over your skin and mainly Western forms of massage techniques such as Swedish, Deep tissue, Sports, and Neuromuscular, are used on the body.

Do I have to be completely naked?

For the wet massage, you are always draped with the sheet/blanket and only the body part being worked on will be exposed to the practitioner. You only disrobe only as much as you feel safe. There is no disrobing for the dry massage. Your level of comfort is respected at all times.

What if I need to cancel or change an appointment?

A 24 hour notice is required to change or cancel an appointment. There is a $40 fee for all other cancellations or no shows.

Do I have to make an appointment?

Yes, an appointment is necessary. Sometimes same day appointments are available.

Do I have any control during my massage?

Yes, please communicate to me regarding your desired pressure or style of the technique. Further, environmental factors such as temperature, draping, music, scents can be influenced by your participation. For example, if you don’t want a particular part of your body (i.e., stomach, face, fingers) massaged, please let me know.

Are gift certificates available?

Yes, gift certificates are available. It is a popular gift to a loved one, a birthday gift, or a reward for a co-worker.

Does the therapist come to my home or office (out-calls)?

Ordinarily I don’t do out-calls - except in an emergency on a case by case basis and I charge an extra $30 for the time and gas required.

What is recommended after the massage?

Ordinarily, it is best to be in a quiet space alone for at least 30 minutes after a session. Some clients like to take a warm bath in their own home, meditate, take a short walk, or sleep, to allow the body to absorb the benefits of the massage. Please remember to drink lots of water to help flush out stuck toxins released from the massage.
